88 Pianists Project
In 2019 I was lucky enough to be part of the 88 Pianists Project, which involved creating 88 mechanical 'finger extenders', each 7 metres long, which would allow 88 pianists to play a single piano, one person for each key. To create the mechanism designs our team visited 35 primary schools across the UK, teaching 7-10 year-olds about engineering and mechanisms before asking the children to create their designs...
UK STEM Awards - Sleeprotect
Malaria kills 1 child every 2 minutes, so for the Telegraph’s UK STEM competition I developed SLEEProtect, a low-cost cardboard crib with an integrated mosquito net to protect infants from mosquitos whilst they sleep. My entry reached the semi-finals which included a presentation to industry experts at GlaxoSmithKline HQ.
Combat Robots
I have built several combat robots which I have entered into a number of national competitions similar in style to RobotWars or BattleBots. Robots that I have built include high power pneumatic 'flippers', horizontal bar spinners, 'drum' spinners, wedge robots, and a tracked robot. This has given me skills in design, fabrication, pneumatics, electronics and project management.
